Kozarev confers with the South African Delegation

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dušan Kozarev, met today with a delegation of the Republic of South Africa, which is visiting Serbia to participate in the Second Meeting of International Participants of Expo 2027. The delegation comprised Jaimal Anand, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Athens, which covers Serbia on a non-resident basis, and Academician Professor Marko Bumbaširević, Honorary Consul of South
Africa in Serbia.

Noting that bilateral relations are characterized by decades-long friendship, mutual respect, and a prominent level of support on key issues in international forums, the interlocutors expressed optimistic views regarding the future development of mutual ties. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening overall relations, including intensifying political dialogue and exchanges of visits at the high and highest levels.

During a sincere and open discussion, views were exchanged on key international issues and on modalities for deepening cooperation in the fields of culture, education, technology, innovation, economy, defense, and security. The participants also discussed enhancing cooperation between the two ministries of foreign affairs and strengthening the contractual and legal framework of bilateral relations.

Kozarev expressed gratitude for the support extended to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, particularly in view of the importance of South Africa in that part of the African continent. He conveyed to his interlocutors that one of the messages delivered by the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, at the recent Ambassadors’ Conference was that strengthening relations with friendly African countries remains among Serbia’s priorities.

Counsellor Anand emphasized that it is encouraging to see the progress achieved by Serbia, noting that for South Africa, Serbia represents the most important partner in this region. The guests particularly praised the outstanding organization of preparations for the Specialized Exhibition Expo 2027 and the warm reception they received.

The possibility of organizing an event marking the birthday of Nelson Mandela was also discussed, to be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, the Embassy of South Africa in Athens, the Honorary Consulate of South Africa in Serbia, and the Museum of African Art in Belgrade, as well as the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Đurić, to name a street in Belgrade after Mandela.
