Jovanović confers with the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council
State Secretary Jovanović emphasized the significant role of the Human Rights Council in strengthening the international system for the protection of human rights, as well as in supporting United Nations Member States in enhancing their national capacities in this field.
She underscored Serbia’s firm commitment to upholding the fundamental principles of international law, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of independent states, as well as the consistent implementation of its international obligations. Jovanović expressed the Republic of Serbia’s readiness to continue constructive cooperation with the Council’s mechanisms, with a view to further advancing the protection and promotion of human rights. She also informed her interlocutor about the current situation concerning violations of the human rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.
President Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro presented the Council’s priorities for the forthcoming period, with a particular focus on strengthening dialogue, inclusiveness, and the efficiency of its work.
Both sides expressed their readiness to continue an open and substantive dialogue and to further enhance cooperation.
The President of the Council also highlighted the significance of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, whose high-level segment—attended by State Secretary Jovanović—was opened on 23 February 2026 in Geneva, with the participation of more than 120 states, underscoring the strong commitment of the international community to the advancement of human rights at the global level.
