Driving license and vehicle insurance

 

International driving licence

In addition to a valid driver's license, when traveling abroad, some countries also require an international driver's license. For individual countries, you can find more information here.

Recognition of Driving Licenses

The Republic of Serbia has concluded agreements that enable the exchange of a Serbian driving license for a driving license of the following countries:

1. Albania

2. Greece

3. Northern Macedonia

4. Spain

5. Tunisia

6. United Arab Emiratesv

7. Italy

8. China

 

Countries that de facto recognize a Serbian driving licenses and that can be exchanged without a signed bilateral agreement are:

1. Australia (exchange possible for B category and for driving a motorcycle, provided that the person is over 25 years of age);

2. Austria (Serbian driving licenses are recognized without the obligation to take a driving test for all categories of vehicles starting from February 6, 2017);

3. Denmark (exchange possible only for B category);

4. Germany;

5. Switzerland;

6. Qatar;

 

Green Card

Green Card is an international certificate of MTPL insurance. The form itself represents the evidence of contracted MTPL insurance, i.e. the evidence that a vehicle had a valid insurance coverage at the time of its use abroad. It is obtained from the insurer of MTPL insurance and follows the period of policy validity.

In June 2011, a Multilateral Guarantee Agreement was signed and Serbia became a member of the system based on the license plates – Deemed Insurance Cover System. By signing this agreement, from January 1st 2012 the owners of motor vehicles in Serbia are enabled to travel to aforementioned countries without obligation to have a green card.

The signatory countries are: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, France, Finland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (including Channel Islands and Isle of Man), Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland , Luxembourg, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Switzerland (including Liechtenstein), Andorra, Norway and Iceland.

A bilateral agreement has been signed with Montenegro, regulating that Serbian nationals when entering the territory of Montenegro in their vehicles are not required to possess a green card form.

A green card is still necessary for travel to one of the remaining countries of the Green Card System that are not members of the mentioned Multilateral agreement: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey, Israel, Iran, Northern Macedonia, Albania, Tunisia and Morocco.
