Substantive and fruitful discussions between the Foreign Ministers of Serbia and Switzerland
Minister Đurić noted that the Serbian community living in Switzerland represents one of the key bridges and pillars of the overall bilateral relationship.
“We are especially grateful to our Swiss hosts for being the first country to officially confirm its participation in Expo 2027, which presents Serbia with a unique opportunity to showcase its new image to the world — to highlight the positive changes that have taken place and to demonstrate our aspirations for the future. This is precisely why we are investing heavily in the development of new infrastructure and the expansion of our national capacities,” Đurić stated.
He emphasized that Serbia and Switzerland enjoy excellent cooperation in the economic sphere, particularly in the ICT sector and other services, and that Serbia deeply appreciates Switzerland’s support in the development of its science and technology parks.
“We also exchanged views on regional and global matters. Given that both Switzerland and Serbia are militarily neutral countries, we share a distinct perspective on international developments. I conveyed Serbia’s position and our desire to contribute to peace, not only in our immediate region but more broadly, as well as our readiness to engage in all initiatives that promote peace and stability across our continent,” the Serbian Foreign Minister added.
Minister Đurić thanked the hosts for their hospitality and expressed hope that Serbia will soon have the opportunity to welcome its Swiss friends in Belgrade.
Swiss Federal Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis, addressing the media, expressed satisfaction with the productive meeting, during which, as he noted, a number of issues of mutual interest were discussed.
Acknowledging the good relations between Serbia and Switzerland, Minister Cassis underlined that there remains room for further advancement, particularly in the areas of economy, science, and modern technologies. He also emphasized the special role played by the large Serbian diaspora in Switzerland in fostering bilateral ties.
Minister Cassis further stated that he and his Serbian counterpart had discussed the situation in the Western Balkans, Switzerland’s upcoming OSCE Chairmanship in the coming year, and cooperation with Serbia within the framework of that organization.
He devoted particular attention to the upcoming Expo 2027, recalling that Switzerland was the first country to confirm its participation, and added that he is personally very much looking forward to the event.
