Political relations
Political contacts and relations remain underdeveloped.
The first Ambassador of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) was appointed in 1975 on a non-resident basis, with residence in Dakar.
Ivica Dačić, then First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, visited The Gambia in December 2017.
Ousainou Darboe, then Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Gambia, paid a reciprocal visit to Serbia in February 2018.
Meetings on the margins of international organisations: Ivica Dačić, then First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, met with Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Gambia, on the margins of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2019.
Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Gambia, paid a working visit to the Republic of Serbia on 2 February 2024.
Nikola Selaković, then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, met with Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Gambia, on 12 October 2021 on the margins of the Commemorative Meeting marking the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Former First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić also met with Mamadou Tangara on the margins of the NAM Contact Group Summit in Baku on 2 March 2023 and the Ministerial Meeting of the 19th NAM Summit in Kampala in January 2024.
Economic relations
According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, no foreign trade was recorded with The Gambia in the first eight months of 2026. In 2025, exports alone were recorded, amounting to USD 18,000.
