Political relations
The progress made in political dialogue over the past several years has led to a substantial improvement in bilateral relations.
Former First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić visited Qatar in April 2015, while former President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić visited in November 2016. High-level dialogue continued with the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar to the Republic of Serbia on 29–30 January 2017.
A delegation of the previous convocation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, headed by its then Speaker, Maja Gojković, participated in the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Doha from 6 to 10 April 2019, as well as in the 7th Global Conference of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, held in Doha on 9–10 December 2019.
Former First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić participated in the 19th Doha Forum on 14–15 December 2019. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, President of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, headed his country's delegation to the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Belgrade from 13 to 17 October 2019.
On 19 May 2020, the Emir of Qatar sent an aircraft carrying medical assistance to the Republic of Serbia, comprising 8.5 tonnes of medical supplies, including protective and medical masks, gowns, gloves and face shields. This gesture reflected the friendship between the two countries, as well as their good bilateral relations and cooperation.
The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia participated in the Doha Forum in December 2025.
Economic relations
Economic cooperation with the State of Qatar is on the rise, while the exchange of goods is still modest, having in mind the opportunities of the two economies.
According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the total trade exchange with Qatar in 2025 amounted to €7.3 million, of which €4.5 million referred to exports from the Republic of Serbia and €2.8 million to imports.
Bilateral agreements
Eight agreements are in force:
1. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the State of Qatar for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with Respect to Taxes on Income (2010);
2. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the State of Qatar on the Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments (2016);
3. Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the State of Qatar (2016);
4. Memorandum of Understanding on Youth and Sports between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the State of Qatar (2016);
5. Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment of the State of Qatar (2016);
6. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar on the Establishment of Political Consultations on Matters of Mutual Interest (2017);
7. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the State of Qatar on the Mutual Abolition of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Special and Official Passports (22 September 2025);
8. Memorandum of Understanding on the Education and Training of Diplomats between the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar (22 September 2025).
