Political relations

A milestone in the political dialogue in the past few years has conditioned the substantial development of bilateral relations.

Former First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Dačić visited Qatar in April 2015 and the previous President of the Republic of Serbia T. Nikolić−on November 2016. The high-level dialogue continued with the visit of the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Interior to the Republic of Serbia on 29−30 January 2017. The delegation of the previous convocation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, led by the then Speaker of the National Assembly M. Gojković, participated in the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held on 6−10 April 2019 in Doha, as well as in the 7th Global Conference of Parliamentarians against Corruption held on 09−10 December 2019 in Doha.

Former First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Dačić participated in the 19th Doha Forum held on 14−15 December 2019. The Speaker of the Consultative Assembly of the State of Qatar, Mr. Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmud led his country's delegation at the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Belgrade on 13−17 October 2019.

On May 19, 2020, the Emir of Qatar sent a plane with medical assistance to R. Serbia (8.5 tons of medical equipment - protective and epidemiological masks, coats, gloves and visors), as an expression of friendship that connects the two countries and good bilateral relations and cooperation.

 

Economic relations

Economic cooperation with the State of Qatar is on the rise, while the exchange of goods is still modest, having in mind the opportunities of the two economies.

In 2020, the total value of the realized exchange of goods was 5,945,000 euros, whereof Serbian exports accounted for 5,605,000 euros, and imports for 340,000 euros.

 In 2019, the total value of realized exchange of goods was 10,579,000 euros, whereof Serbian exports accounted for 9,834,000 euros and imports for 745,000 euros. Investment cooperation, for which there is a great interest of the Republic of Serbia, is not significantly present in the bilateral relations.

 

Bilateral agreements

Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the State of Qatar for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income (signed on 2 October 2009).

Agreement on Mutual Incentives and Protection of Investments between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Serbia (signed on 7 November 2016).

Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of Political Consultations on Issues of Common Interest between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia (signed on 30 January 2017).
