31. Jul 2022.
Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Australia Rade Stefanović, at the invitation of His Grace Bishop of Australia and New Zeeland Siluan, attended the Saint Archpriest Liturgy, the celebration of the Patron Saint-day of the Missionary Parish of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Coober Pedy, and the celebration of the 30th anniversary of its foundation.

In his speech to the attendees, Ambassador Stefanović said he was very happy to have come and for the fact that he was the first Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia visiting the small Serbian community and the Serbian church in Coober Pedy, a unique cultural monument of both the Serbian and Australian people. He emphasised the importance of their preservation and protection, as a permanent sign of the presence of the Serbian people in Australia.

In addition to many believers, who had arrived from all parts of Australia, this event was also attended by Member of Parliament of South Australia and representative of the Premier of South Australia Edward Hughes.

St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Coober Pedy is unique, as the only Serbian church in the world to have been fully built underground, in a desert environment, in Central Australia.
