Bilateral Political Consultations between Serbia and Switzerland
The Serbian delegation was headed by Ambassador Tamara Rastovac Siamashvili, Acting Assistant Minister for Bilateral Cooperation, and included Katarina Lalić Smajević, Acting Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation, and Miloš Todorović, Acting Assistant Minister for European Union Affairs.
The Swiss delegation was led by Ambassador Pierre-Yves Fux, Head of the Eurasia Division, and included Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Serbia Anne Lugon-Moulin.
During the consultations, both sides expressed satisfaction with the high level and substantive nature of bilateral relations, noting that political dialogue, including at the highest level, has intensified. They also underscored the importance of regular political consultations in further strengthening cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
Particular attention was given to the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Switzerland, which the two countries are marking this year. The interlocutors highlighted the Agreement on the Swiss–Serbian Innovation Programme for 2026–2030, signed in Belgrade during President Parmelin’s visit in April 2026, as an important framework for the further development of Serbia’s innovation ecosystem and a reflection of the excellent cooperation between the two countries in this field. Both sides also welcomed the progress made in interparliamentary cooperation and expressed confidence that it would continue to develop in the period ahead.
Ambassador Rastovac Siamashvili briefed the Swiss delegation in detail on the extremely difficult situation facing the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija and the threats to its security and rights. She emphasised the lack of progress in the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue, which she attributed to Pristina’s uncooperative approach, and underscored the importance of preventing further unilateral actions by Pristina.
The consultations also provided an opportunity for an in-depth discussion of other areas of bilateral cooperation, particularly economic relations, with special emphasis on Switzerland’s participation in the Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade. The Swiss delegation also outlined plans to host an Artificial Intelligence Summit in Geneva in June next year.
The two delegations discussed cooperation in multilateral fora, including within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), currently chaired by Switzerland, and the Council of Europe, as well as mutual support for candidatures to international bodies.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on the situation in the Western Balkans, while the Serbian delegation provided an update on Serbia’s activities and progress in the European integration process.
