21. Oct 2026.
The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nevena Jovanović participated today in the EU–Western Balkans Political Directors’ Meeting in Tirana, dedicated to matters relating to the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).

The meeting, opened by Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania Ferit Hoxha, brought together representatives of the Western Balkans and the European External Action Service (EEAS). The discussions provided an opportunity to exchange views on current foreign and security policy issues, with particular emphasis on major geopolitical developments and the situation in the EU’s wider neighbourhood.

State Secretary Jovanović reaffirmed that full membership in the European Union remains a strategic priority for the Republic of Serbia, underscoring that the credibility of the enlargement process also rests on the EU’s clear commitment to welcoming new members. She emphasised that expressions of support for the region’s European perspective must be translated into concrete decisions that enable progress in the accession process, in line with the results achieved.

Reflecting on current geopolitical developments, Jovanović stressed that the preservation of peace and stability requires consistent and non-selective adherence to international law and the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. She also underscored the importance of sustained political dialogue, regional cooperation and stronger economic ties as essential foundations for building mutual trust and addressing outstanding issues in the region.
