Political Consultations Between Serbia and Ireland
The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia was led by Acting Assistant Minister for the European Union, Ambassador Miloš Todorović, with the participation of Acting Assistant Minister for Bilateral Cooperation, Ambassador Tamara Rastovac Siamashvili, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.
The delegation of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland was led by Director General for the European Union and Trade Policy, Ambassador Maeve von Heynitz, with the participation of the Ambassador of Ireland and representatives of the Embassy in the Republic of Serbia.
The consultations were held as part of preparations for Ireland’s forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026, with the aim of exchanging views on the accession process of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union, as well as on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The interlocutors underscored that Ireland supports the enlargement policy and the European perspective of the Western Balkans, noting that enlargement will constitute one of the priorities of its Presidency.
The discussion focused on progress in the implementation of reform activities and the next steps in Serbia’s accession process. The importance of further enhancing cooperation within the framework of gradual integration was highlighted, as a key element in preparing for EU membership.
In the second part of the consultations, dedicated to bilateral relations, it was assessed that relations between Serbia and Ireland are good, with scope for further advancement, particularly in the fields of the economy, the information technology sector, and high technologies.
Views were also exchanged on regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue, as well as broader international issues, including the situation in Ukraine and global geopolitical challenges. It was concluded that there is mutual readiness to further intensify political dialogue and to concretize cooperation in the period ahead.
