Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the Ana Walshe case

21. Jan 2023.
Today, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Milanka Ljubicic, the mother of the citizen of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Walshe, who is being intensively searched for in the United States, while an investigation is being conducted in connection with the murder charges against her husband Brian Walshe in the United States, in the town of Cohasset, Massachusetts.

On that occasion, Ms. Ljubicic was informed about the procedures that are carried out in cases of disappearance of citizens of the Republic of Serbia abroad as well as in cases with a fatal outcome, while also being informed about the competences of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this connection.

Furthermore, it was pointed out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Serbia in the U.S., were not contacted by the U.S. authorities regarding this case, bearing in mind that Ana Walshe is a U.S. citizen, that is, that there were no requests from Ana's family members for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage with the U.S. authorities.

Thanking for the help offered, Ms. Ljubicic accepted the suggestion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, as the next of kin of the missing Ana Walshe, signed the request for obtaining the official report on the disappearance of her daughter in the United States, as well as all the necessary related documentation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has immediately delivered this request of Ms. Milanka Ljubicic to the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York so that it could take further steps and obtain the necessary reports and information on the case from the competent U.S. authorities.

On this occasion as well, it was pointed out to Ms. Ljubicic that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remained available to the family for any assistance regarding the case, within the purview of the Ministry.
